FOTD: Too cool for school

1 Jul

As the title indicates, this FOTD is a mashup of cool colors. Remember my review of the Ruby Kisses HD gel eyeliner? Well, I went back to my local BSS & got the dark purple one. It’s called violet shimmer & I love it! I have no plans to do a formal review of this one, so just know that in my humble opinion, it’s the bee’s knees. If you’re looking for a muted purple eyeliner, I highly recommend it. ENJOY!

PRIMER: Mary Kay Eye Primer

BASE: Maybelline Color Tattoo in Fierce & Tangy

SHADOW: I applied a matte white e/s to the inner half of my lower eyelid. I blended that into cerulean blue (from the Black Radiance Retro Chic palette) on the outer v & matte navy blue (from the WNW Pride palette) in the crease. I used matte peach (from the WNW Lust palette) to highlight my browbone area.

OTHER DETAILS… I used matte blackened purple e/s from the WNW Lust palette to fill in my eyebrows & L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my lashes. I defined my upper lashline & waterline using Ruby Kisses HD gel liner in Violet Shimmer. I traced a thin line below my waterline using Wet N Wild eyeliner pencil in Cool Green.

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

FOTD: Turquoise Pearl

14 Jun

PRIMER: Mary Kay Eye Primer

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Rocky Mountain Green

SHADOW: I used NYX pearl mania loose e/s in “Turquoise pearl” over the majority of my lower lid. Then I used matte navy blue (from the WNW Pride palette) to darken the outer v. Next I used matte camel e/s (from the WNW Vanity palette) to highlight my browbone & fade out the turquoise. Finally I highlighted my inner corners with matte white e/s (also from the WNW Pride palette).

OTHER DETAILS… I used matte blackened purple e/s from the WNW Lust palette to fill in my eyebrows & L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my lashes. I defined my upper lashline using Wet N Wild cream liner in black & my waterline using Wet N Wild pencil in lilac. I used “Deep Grape” e/s (from the Coastal Scents Hot Pots collection) to set the purple eyeliner.

What’s going on with my wig?

I know they look more like coils, but this is a four day old flexi-rod set. For some reason my curls tend to get tighter over time, instead of staying the same diameter as the original rod. Anyway, my edges were fuzzy, so I brushed & smoothed em using Ecostyler Olive Oil gel. Then I secured it with a banana clip.

FOTD: Berry Burst

7 Jun

In case you’re wondering, I am trying my best to post my backlogged FOTDs in the order they were taken (hence the retroactive dates). I apologize for any confusion this may cause. 😉 Enjoy…

PRIMER: Mary Kay Eye Primer

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Cherry

SHADOW: I applied a matte pastel pink e/s (from the Wet N Wild Lust palette) to my tearduct area.  I blended the light pink into Neon Red (a matte pinkish red e/s) from my Coastal Scents Hot Pots palette. Then I used my Sonia Kashuk large crease brush to apply Maroon Berry (a matte burgundy e/s, also by CS) to the outer portion of my lid.  Finally I used Puce (a matte pinkish tan e/s, also by CS) to highlight my browbone & blend out the reds.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows & L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper & lower lashline using L’Oreal H.I.P. cream liner in Teal.

FOTD: Hello Kitty

21 Feb

Hey Glams!

My friend Nisha suggested this color palette a few months ago. It’s been awhile since I did a cartoon-themed look, so I figured February was the perfect time to try a Hello Kitty look. The little girl in me wanted to don Fuchsia Fever lipstick that day, but the adult in me decided to play it safe & go with Trendy Mauve, so that way cut crease can get the attention it deserves, LOL! Enjoy…

PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk

SHADOW: I applied matte white e/s (from the Wet N Wild Pride palette) over the inner two-thirds of my lower eyelid. Then I applied matte hot pink (from the Shany 120 palette) to my outer v area. Then I went back in with a lighter shade of pink to help blend the hot pink into the white e/s.  To create the cut crease, I used my pencil brush to draw a line of matte black e/s along my crease (WNW Greed palette). I used my Sonia Kashuk large crease brush to blend the black into matte peach e/s on my brow bone (also WNW Greed).

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows & L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined the inner rim of my waterline with Wet N Wild eyeliner in white & used Wet N Wild cream liner in black on my upper lashline & outer waterline.

CHEEKS: Ulta single e/s in “Sparks” on the hollows of my cheeks & Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey on the apples.

FOTD: Mystique

9 Jan

If you’re not familiar with the X-Men comic book series, this look may not make sense to you, but because I enjoy exposing you to awesome things… I’d like to introduce you to Mystique (or Raven Darkhölme), the infamous shape-shifter of the X-Men franchise. Like most of my FOTDs, this was meant to be my interpretation of her overall look. Mystique’s mutation enables her body’s cells to morph at will. She impersonates other people from their hair, to their clothes, to the sound of their voice. They say a pic is worth a thousand words, so this is what she looks like in her natural form. If you haven’t seen them already, I HIGHLY recommend that you check out the X-Men movies. In addition to being entertaining, they’re also socially relevant; dealing with topics such as political unrest, patriotism, discrimination, diversity, terrorism, anti-semitism, loyalty & honor. Enough of that, let’s talk makeup…

PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk

SHADOW: I applied matte navy blue e/s, from the WNW Pride palette, to the inner & outer corners of my lower eyelid. Then I used a frosty, lime green e/s to cover the center of my lower eyelid. I used matte peach e/s (WNW Greed palette) to highlight my brow bone area. For a pop of color, I used my pencil brush to apply NYX Ultra Pearl Mania e/s in Jade under my lower lashes.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows & L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lashline & waterline using Wet N Wild cream liner in black.

CHEEKS: Ulta single e/s in “Sparks” on the hollows of my cheeks & Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey on the apples.

LIPS: Lancome Color Design lipstick in Trendy Mauve + CO Bigelow lip gloss in Magenta Mint

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

FOTD: New Year’s Eve

3 Jan

HAIR – These loose curls are the remnants of a dry roller set on jumbo rollers after several days of wrapping it at night. My bang area was looking kinda wonky (half curly/half straight), so I pinned it back & came up w/ this hairdo…

Now onto THE MAKEUP!

PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Yogurt

SHADOW: I applied matte pinkish-burgundy e/s (from the Shany 120 palette) to my crease, using my Sonia Kashuk crease brush & used sparkly, blackened purple e/s (from the Wet N Wild Lust palette) to deepen my outer v. Then I used matte peach e/s (from the Wet N Wild Greed palette) to highlight my brow bone. I used a flat brush to pat this pewter-ish glitter dust onto my lower eyelid. I’m 87.3% sure that it’s one of the LA Splash Diamond Dusts, but I don’t know which one. See I broke the original jar ages ago & transferred it to this generic container, so there’s no label. So let’s just call it “moondust” LOL!

OTHER DETAILS… I used Wet N Wild Arch Envy brow wax & CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows & L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lashline with Wet N Wild cream liner in black & my waterline with Ulta glitter eyeliner pencil in Silver. I also used Black Radiance Complexion Perfection Undereye Concealer (in CA8010for light to medium complexions).

CHEEKS: Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey

LIPS: Lancome Color Design lipstick in Trendy Mauve + CO Bigelow lip gloss in Magenta Mint

Did you get glammed up this weekend? What’d you do to celebrate the new year?

FOTD: To Egypt

6 Dec

Modern-day athletes have been known to smear eye black across their cheeks to keep the glare of bright stadium lights from impairing their vision. This practice can be traced all the back to Egypt, where they wore thick dark eyeliner to reduce the glare of the sun. Although glamorous chicks like us employ hata blockas to do that job, we can still appreciate the beauty of Egyptian inspired makeup.

This look was RIDICULOUSLY simple. I only used 2 different eyeshadows. The “Egyptian flair” comes from winging the tips of my eyeliner. If you haven’t already, you should consider purchasing a cream or gel eyeliner (black) & a good liner brush. Kohl pencils are great, but they won’t give you the boldness of a cream liner. This look can also be recreated using black liquid liner, but the drawback with that is that you can only use it on your upper lashline. Liquid eyeliner + your waterline = frustration & black tears all over your cheeks.  Just don’t do it to yourself, LOL!

PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Yellow

SHADOW: I covered my entire lower eyelid in NYX Ultra Pearl Mania in Yellow Gold pearl. Finally I used matte camel e/s (from the Wet N Wild Vanity palette) to highlight my brow bone.

OTHER DETAILS… I used Wet N Wild Arch Envy brow wax & CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows & Maybelline Volume Express “Falsies” Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I winged my upper lashline & defined my waterline using Wet n Wild cream eyeliner in black.

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

CHEEKS: Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey

LIPS:  COBigelow lip gloss in Pink Mint (from BBW)

SN: I’ve been rocking the same curly fro since last Tues or Wed! Most nights I sleep in about 8 twists at night. Some nights, my curls have stayed intact without even having to re-twist. In the morning I just separate fluff & go. I love the volume & the ease of this style. Giovanni & I are deeply in love & yet I’m dreading hairwashing day… LOL! What’s your wig doing this week?

FB Flashback: FOTD Lemon-Lime

14 Oct

I’m especially proud of this FOTD because it was my first attempt at the elusive cut crease. I’m not sure if the dark green is sharp enough to qualify as a “cut crease”, but maybe the makeup police will let it slide. 😉 S/O to my work boo, Amanda, for suggesting that I use these colors! Oh & pardon the blur, these pics were taken with my cell phone… ENJOY!

March 30, 2011

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx matte e/s primer

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk (lower lid) & Black Bean (on the crease)

SHADOW: I used Coastal Scents mica powder in Canary Yellow on my inner lid (tear duct area). To create the gradation effect, I blended the yellow mica powder into a matte greenish-yellow e/s (from my Shany 120 palette). Then I blended the yellowish-green into matte lime green (also Shany). To create the cut crease, I drew a line along the crease of my eyelid using the NYX pencil in Black Bean. I applied matte teal green e/s (also Shany) on top of that line, blending it up & out. Finally I used matte camel (from the Wet N Wild Vanity palette) to highlight my browbone.

CHEEKS: Ulta single e/s in “Sparks” on the hollows of my cheeks & CoverGirl bronzer to highlight my cheekbones
