FOTD: Classic Makeup

30 Dec

Sometimes you just wanna wear makeup without looking extremely made up. This is one of those looks…

SAM_03922The key to pulling off your own classic makeup look is to find neutral eyeshadows that complement your skin tone. Whether you’re ivory, caramel or mahogany complected, look for shadows that are within 2 shades of YOUR foundation or pressed powder. Use a combination of lighter & darker colors to create depth on your eyelid. Hey! If you prefer, you can even use your pressed powder as an eyeshadow. And finish does matter! While there’s nothing wrong with using frosty and/or shimmery shadows to re-create this FOTD, I believe that eyeshadows with matte finish will produce the most natural-looking results.  They tend to give you that airbrushed, flawless look that will make people question whether or not you’re wearing makeup. *cues Beyoncé* Here’s what I did to create my classic FOTD…

SAM_0511PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Yellow

SHADOW: I started by using a fluffy Sonia Kashuk crease brush to deposit medium matte brown over my crease area using windshield wiper motions. I mixed CS Hot Pots in Oatmeal Tan (a matte camel e/s) & New Terrain (a mid-toned, matte, sable brown e/s) to achieve this color. On my lower lid, closest to my lashline, used a densely packed e/s brush to apply  yellowy-camel e/s. I created this color by combining matte camel e/s (from the WNW Vanity palette) with a matte, pastel daffodil yellow e/s (from a colorful eBay palette I purchased last year). I kept my brow bone neutral by applying the same matte camel eyeshadow.

OTHER DETAILS… I used NYX Cosmetics Slim Lip pencil in Espresso (820) & a matte dark brown e/s from my 88 warm palette to fill in my eyebrows. Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal mascara in Glam Black on my lashes. I winged my upper lashline & defined my waterline using a liner brush dipped in Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Blackest Black.

SAM_0508FACE: For under eye & spot correction I used, Ruby Kisses 3D face creator in Level 11. Then I dusted a light layer of L’oreal True Match Powder in Nut Brown (C7) over my face.

CHEEKS: Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey

and my FAVORITE part of this look… LIPS! On my lips, I used Burt’s Bees Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter, Palladio lip liner in Rockin’ Red & MAC retro matte lipstick in Ruby Woo.

*** As with most things, your choice of lipstick will vary with your personal preference. But in my opinion, the neutrality of this look lends itself to a BOLD lipstick choice. I used red to achieve a classic look, but burgundy, hot pink or even purple lipstick would pair well with the natural makeup. Whatever lipstick you choose, be sure to prime your pout with a touch of balm (for moisture) & a lip pencil in a corresponding color (for longevity & maximum pigmentation).***

Love the look. If you wouldn’t mind when you get the chance, could you do a video on this particular look. I am horrible on correctly applying eye shadow and contouring my eyebrows.
