I’ve recently received a few inquiries about my Winter 2014 hair regimen. Here’s what I’ve been doing this winter to keep my wig looking right.

BOTTOM LINE: My 2014 hair regimen isn’t at that different from that of two years ago. The main difference is that I use a bit less heat now. Whereas before I was ALL ABOUT straightening my roots, I have chilled out with that. My hair is longer than it was back then, so it actually hangs differently. In a nutshell, longer hair = more elongated curls, so when you add flat-ironed your roots to the equation, you end up with ZERO volume 😦 Additionally, actively sectioning & straightening curly/puffy roots is time consuming, I prefer more passive methods of acheiving smooth edges. For me, the tension from wrapping and/or bunning my hair is usually just enough to give the appearance of a sleek hairline.

The key to pulling off your own classic makeup look is to find neutral eyeshadows that complement your skin tone. Whether you’re ivory, caramel or mahogany complected, look for shadows that are within 2 shades of YOUR foundation or pressed powder. Use a combination of lighter & darker colors to create depth on your eyelid. Hey! If you prefer, you can even use your pressed powder as an eyeshadow. And finish does matter! While there’s nothing wrong with using frosty and/or shimmery shadows to re-create this FOTD, I believe that eyeshadows with matte finish will produce the most natural-looking results. Two Christmases ago I purchased a few samples from The Body Needs’ Blackened Collection. I’m not a huge smoky eye girl, so I’m just now getting around to using them. I opted for loose shadow, but TBN also sells BV pressed into a 26mm pan or a “crush pot” – NOT to be confused with Coastal Scents’ “hot pots,” LOL! The sample size costs about $2 and is about 1/2 tablespoon of loose e/s encased in a 0.5 gram sifter jar. This is the perfect size for someone who is interested, but not willing to make a commitment to the full size product.
What’s interesting about BV is that it takes on a different cast depending on what color base you use underneath the pigment. See for yourself…

Although the price & packaging of Blackened Violet are great, I was pretty underwhelmed by the actual performance of the product. I felt that I had to pack it on to get a decent color payoff and found that it had a lot of fallout.The color is so dark that you’ll need makeup remover or a wet wipe to keep from looking like you have dark circles under your eye or you got TKO’ed last night! I also discovered that blending out Blackened Violet will remove most of the shimmer, which is what makes it so pretty in the swatches on my hand. I even used a metallic base to help the shimmer translate, but the finished product was quite demure. For that reason, this s e/s was a fail for me (Overall score: 4). But if you’re in the market for a blackish-purplish e/s with a little bit of shimmer, then this may be the one for you. *kanye shrug* ONTO the FOTD…

In case you’re wondering what I love most… The BLUSH TOO palette & HOT POTS (customizable eyeshadow palettes) are the bees knees!
If you have a broken makeup containers, CS sells cosmetic jars in an array of sizes (with or without a sifter). They also sell empty 26mm pans in case you decide to get creative & press your own eyeshadow. And of course they sell empty palettes that are magnetized to receive 1, 4, 12 or 28 Hot Pots (or another 26mm pan).
One of my good friends owns the CS 88 palette & her face is always beat. *coughs* Brittany, the glams & I are gonna need a product review in the near future – Please & thanks!
CS recently reformulated their eyeshadow primer. I haven’t tried it yet, but it has gotten some pretty good customer reviews. If you’re looking for an inexpensive primer, it may be the way to go.
CS has an incredible array of cosmetic brushes as well. I own several & I bought my bestie this outrageous CS gift set for her birthday. It included 32 piece brush set w/ a leatherette case, the blush too palette, concealer palette & the 88 eyeshadow palette. *coughs* Nikki we might need a product review from you as well. 😉
And if you’re looking to buy ingrdients for some natural recipes, they also sell stuff like cocoa butter, shea oil, african black soap. Years ago I purchased some of their fragrance oils to customize the scents of some different lotions & potions.
The only stinker I got from CS was their gel liners, which I mentioned in my Dec 2011 & Jan 2012 Beauty Acquisitions video. I don’t know whether or not I received a bad batch, but ALL of my gel liner was dried out, so I never got to use it. I didn’t get to return it because of their 30 day return policy; too much time had elapsed between Black Friday & when I opened my gifts. 😦
